Whiplash

It hurts to become a great musician

Andrew is a first year music student at a prestigious New York conservatory. His dream is to become a great jazz drummer, and it looks like this might come true when he is chosen for the school's top band. But the teacher in charge of the band is a terrifying, sadistic perfectionist. He mentally and physically tortures his students to try to make them surpass their limitations. Soon, Andrew and the teacher are locked in a tense fight for supremacy. Whiplash is a great film about music and dedication that excellence demands, but also asks difficult questions about the role and duty of a teacher.
